Mikki Nicholson scrabble champion or playing the TS game

I do have to hand it to Mikki. Scrabble is a game I have loved for as long as I can remember and beating a former world champion is quite a feat and not to be taken lightly least of all by me. I do find myself amused by the hysteria over the supposed misuse of pronouns for the scrabble champion.

I post the following articles with pictures and a video for all of you to please look at before you read any farther. Please watch the video before you judge this post.

Transsexual wins scrabble contest?

Another picture and article.

A different point of view.

A video. Is this a transsexual??

Claims to have been diagnosed as a woman trapped in a man's body by a psychologist

a little way down in the article. Funny thing but I always thought we were the ones that knew we were girls and the last time I checked a psychologist did not diagnose one as a woman trapped in a man's body but as transsexual or transgender but maybe things have changed because I am out of touch obviously.

I can easily see the confusion poor Mikki would cause and particularly to opponents.  One does not often play any form of scrabble with an opponent dressed in fetish clothes which is what the outfit is. To the average layman or John Q. Public whether it be in Britain or the USA or Canada poor Mikki does look like a man in a dress with the lip and chin stubble but then I have this feeling that is the look Mikki was going for.

If so Mikki succeeded brilliantly. In the video Mikki has long hair and a pink wig was not necessary but when you are playing mind games with fellow players in a big scrabble event, my assumption, heck one should go for the world of fetish look because the Brits sure do love their fetishes and what chance does a former world scrabble champion have in front of a beautiful girl in a pink wig, pink PVC dress, a massive 9 o'clock shadow, and mesh stockings although the type of heels are unknown at this time.

The outrage that some have misgendered Mikki has reached Olympic proportions in some areas. Blogs listed on T-central have posts condemning the use of he instead of her as a deliberate attempt to dehumanize Mikki and to denigrate the term transsexual although most of those protesting identify themselves as transgender and Mikki was labeled as that by some articles. People are screaming if someone presents as a woman then the correct pronoun is she and out of kindness in most cases I would oblige but in the case of Mikki I might ask Mikki which would then result in another disturbance of the space-time continuum because Mikki has a dress on so Mikki is a girl, female, woman, or whatever feminine persona Mikki was trying to portray.

You will notice I am trying to tip-toe around things but that is because most of you are fools if you do not realize you are being played by Mikki. Look at the video. Mikki is just a normal guy with longish hair and absolutely shows zero attempt at even doing scruffy tomboy and if that is not a man then I am not sure what a man is because poor Mikki seems to have lost the ability to present as a girl, woman, female or feminine whatever. Why would a transsexual that had transitioned and played a scrabble championship detransition and dress like Mikki does in the video?

The answer is simple.  Mikki is not even remotely transsexual unless one considers transvestism as a minor related form of transsexualism but in my heart I think Mikki has to offend most good cross-dressers because the ones whose blogs I read on here like Meg and others look pretty darn good. Anyone that looks at Mikki and does not realize Mikki is playing a game with Mikki's competitors needs a wake up call.

Looking at Mikki's bone structure it is apparent to me Mikki could have presented  as a quite attractive young girl if Mikki was actually transsexual, transgender, or a practicing transvestite but there was never any attempt to do that and the facial stubble was deliberate and for effect.

I actually find it insulting Mikki is associated with the word transsexual even though I am now a woman. Someone appearing like Mikki is bad for those still transsexual because Mikki is not transsexual in my humble opinion and anything that takes away from the daily struggle people born transsexual live through is disgraceful. I honestly thought I was looking at a picture from a Jerry Springer Show with Mikki.

Now I realize I will probably get ripped to shreds by most on here but really are any of you'll so desperate for public attention that you would do something like Mikki has done?

I mean Mikki at least you could have done your nails pink and had the correct lipstick shade to match the outfit you silly tart!

I have to believe this is once of the clearer examples of the phrase "There's a sucker born every minute" because Mikki is sure counting on it and Barnum could have used Mikki as the bearded lady but oops I err because the bearded lady actually was a lady unlike Mikki who is quite simply a man in a dress playing games and hopefully laughing all the way to the bank as those being played contribute.

One must always encourage the entrepreneurial enterprise of we humans and being played and made a fool of by  Mikki is beyond hilarious as every transgender and most transsexual activists jump on their collective podiums to scream discrimination, trans-phobia, penis phobia, and whatever other phobia is the latest rage of the day in their pathetic little lives.

You were being played you fools and played damn well.

Yeah, I can see why you'd have that point of view. And it would be a valid one, if it were just about Mikki and she was indeed a bloke putting it on for the camera. But it's not about Mikki it's about you too, and everyone like you. (Mikki is transsexual as it happens, on her own road of transition Click here and scroll down to "...and a further update".)

I complained to the BBC because they misgendered a transsexual. Not because they misgendered Mikki as such or because I thought her flamboyant wardrobe was particularly appropriate. I did it because it was unacceptable. I hope that because of the actions of those of us who complained about the coverage of Mikki, the time when such misgendering is unthinkable has edged a little closer. If you made the news I would hope that you too would rather not have the British media cover you thus: " 'Elizabeth', former name XXXX(they would find it!) a man who started dressing full-time as a woman in the 1960s, wrote on his blog...", don't you agree?

@Jenny

I fully expected you to respond and I welcome it. If the woman in a man's body was added on she should have asked for a retraction.

If you cannot see it was all for show and an attempt to play mind games with Mikki's opponents then Mikki has played you to. If Mikki wants to identify transgender then go for it but Mikki is not transsexual because Mikki says Mikki is transsexual.

Since you spoke with dear Mikki did you ask about why she dressed that way for the tournament and dressed as a man in a video interview afterward?

Why the deliberate heavy stubble beard or is that some new form of gender-variant behavior during the tournament?

If she is transsexual why would she where some fetish outfit one minute and then dress like a man for an interview??

It is quite simple Mikki played everyone. If she is as you say "transitioning on her own road" then why wear fetish clothes with a stubble? It was simple cause and effect and it was effective and deliberate.

If Mikki wants to identify as transgender than good for Mikki but Mikki is not transsexual just because Mikki claims Mikki is transsexual.

The BBC just got the trans part wrong. You should have been upset Mikki was not categorized transgender since that fits the broader spectrum where Mikki might possibly fit.

I am worried because people will perceive Mikki represents a transsexual which Mikki does not.

By the way just for your personal identification nobody has ever thought of me as male and if my picture did appear in the paper I would present a positive image of what someone born transsexual may be like not a caricature of some tart from a fetish magazine and would not have dressed like some ugly bloke for an interview like your pal Mikki did.

If your pal Mikki is transsexual and I doubt it maybe Mikki should try and present a better image but somehow I believe Mikki presented what Mikki wanted and you bought it hook, line, and sinker and were played like most fish on the hook.

Hang on Elizabeth, that's not a link to my blog. That's Dru Marland's blog. She's post-op like you, she's straight up and would not write what she has about Mikki lightly. It was her that spoke to Mikki, not me, Mikki's no special pal of mine.

I should certainly hope you'd present a positive image and I can't fault your description of Mikki as looking like some tart from a fetish magazine. Yes, she didn't exactly help us, did she, but the damage is done and all we can do is make our voices heard.

Perhaps you don't realise just how unleasant the likes of the Daily Mail and Daily Express are. They would have any trans-whatever person for breakfast the minute any trans angle entered the picture no matter how faultless their presentation. Even you. That's why we complained about the misgendering, not because we think Mikki is a shining example of womanhood but because our media needs to learn to use a little common courtesy when dealing with trans people. Whatever they look like. Rule of thumb: if they wouldn't do that to a natal woman in those clothes they shouldn't do it to a trans person in them either.

We ain't going to agree, so how about leaving it at that eh?

@Jenny

Sorry for the confusion and my mistake which just adds to the long list of my mistakes starting with more than a few men.

I actually know a lot about your Daily Mail and your scandal sheets. I dated one of your more famous guitar players in the early 70's and they did their best to find out who I was and failed miserably and had to go with the girl that was written about in the NY Times as the first woman to ever manage a construction site for a High rise.

Even then my past was buried by good friends everywhere. It could not happen today. Still love that guitar player to death and we are still friends and he still cannot believe they reached an impasse on my past since they know when he farts in public.

I do not appreciate sycophants and prefer friends that are unafraid to call me on what they perceive as dumb or wrong and unless it gets nasty like a certain person's sycophants I enjoy any conversation and actually can see your point of view and do respect it.

I have spent a lot of time in Great Britain for work and for golf so I do love it there and we can agree to disagree with a little humor hopefully.

In turn I must endeavour to become less exercised in these situations. Sorry.

You really do know how to drop tantalising nuggets of information, don't you. What do I have to do to learn the lurid tales of wild and crazy rock-n-roll excess that live behind that statement? :)

I was just so put off by the persona of Mikki and in my old-time world you are what you usually appear to be. I was lucky but some don't pass but try so hard and then that fool pulls a stunt like that. I may be wrong but I have to call that one as I see it.

As for my guitar hero friend I was just a kid then and was just so happy to even be pre-op in NYC I didn't think of the consequences about much of anything. He did not know when we first met but I had to tell him and it didn't bother him and it continued after surgery.

I would never kiss and tell unless he said something but I was always sober and clean so I have a lot of tasty and hilarious tidbits. There is a friend on here with her own blog that knows who he is but that is it. Maybe if he dies before me but I would never put someone through the shit of what your tabloids would say about him dating a tranny before surgery and then after. He is too nice to be put through that.

By the way I basically handled your tabloids by granting them interviews at my construction site and being so forward it threw them because it seemed I had nothing to hide. They treated me kindly actually saying I was so different and an upgrade over some of the "sluts" he supposedly had dated before.

They got the different part correct anyway.

Mikki is Dude in a dress wearing a cheap wig and intentionally making a spectacle of himself for what ever reasons that ruffles his skirts.

I have no clue who it was that sees this guy as some kind of "transitioning" TG, but to whomever that was I would suggest that they ease off a bit on their psychotropic meds.

Liz. I apologize for my politically incorrect lack of sensitivity. I am just not sufficiently skilled in my suspension of reasonable persceptions.

Elizabeth said...

@Anne,

I was upset because they identified Mikki as transsexual. The transgender gender-variant group are welcome to Mikki but girl I was around this world when it first used the term tranny and when we saw people like this in clubs and we called them bad drag queens, transvestite hooker, etc.. There actually were guys that like so-called girls with stubble but Mikki would never have been classified as a transsexual.

Personally I want to commend Mikki because Mikkiso confused the opponents I am sure they thought more about Mikki than the words and Mikki's dress was a fetish eye-catcher but the give-away is red lipstick which is a fashion no-no with pink and no pink nail polish. If one was going for slut the pink nails and the right lipstick would have been better and possibly a slightly longer beard.

All kidding aside any fool that looks at the video I posted and thinks Mikki is a transsexual needs to TAKE more psychotropic drugs. That was a man and nothing but a man but heck he won that scrabble tournament.

I must assume Mikki even upset most cross-dressers because the one's whose blogs I read look damn good and Mikki was damn bad so transvestite or cross-dresser is out along with transsexual which leaves the gender variant group in the transgender world.

People are so blind they do not even realize they were played.

You know Liz. There does exist the possibility, (however remote, LOL), that we are mistaken in our assessment of this individual.

It COULD be that despite this individual's apparent intellectual prowess, (after all, he DID win a Natinal Scrabble Contest), he is extremely naive.

It COULD be that he wanted to make a public statement, or draw attention to himself as a transgender phenomenon or a poster child.

After all, many TG's take great pleasure and find great personal affirmation in their 15 minutes of fame.

As you can see from the associated stories, cross dressing and fetish related behavior is gaining a modicum of social acceptance and I for one see this as essentially harmless.

Where I DO see danger however is the movement to codify the legal "RIGHT", for ANY man in a dress or halloween wig to enjoy access to "women only" spaces.

Maybe the boys just want to get even for our "invading" their golf courses and country clubs.

I once asked a fellow golfer if he know the meaning or origen of the word, GOLF.

He answered, without hesitation. "Gentlemen Only, Ladies, Forbidden."

Elizabeth said...

@Anne

You play golf? I belonged to several of those good old boy gentleman preferred and women tolerated clubs.

I was the first full female member at one private club. My second husband loved golf as much as flying which is saying something.

I was taught by my dad but physically I was never strong as a child because of low testosterone but I hit it straight and could putt.

I was and still am a pretty good player. I prefer to walk but down here everyone rides.

Anne said...

yaaa. I once shot a 79 and another time a 78. When I played regularly. I usually broke 90 and regularly shot in the mid to low 80's. I never could get control of my driver, but did pretty well with my 3w up the middle, followed by a good approach. I need to get out more and see if I can break 90 again.

Elizabeth said...

@Anne,

I better not tell you what my USGA index was then because you might hate me. It was very rare for me to shoot over 78.

I drove people nuts in tournaments because I talk to handle pressure and have been know to give running commentary to my caddy.

If I had my druthers I would move to Ireland and play all the great courses there. It is better than Scotland.

Good memories of friends from golf and my second husband and I had so much fun playing golf. He was a super competitive nd I just play for fun and he couldn't beat me. Men do hate losing to a girl.

Why Liz!

I'm just plain shocked that you could find anything at all about pretty little Mikki's choice of clothing or that she is such a beautiful and true woman to be at all quyestionable! Are you really that jelous of such beauty?

Frankly I for one always like to dress in such lovely and exotic fineries as her's when I'm going out in public for anything be it the groceries or to pick up the cleaning or even the wife from her job!

I mean every time I do I always get such nice compliments on how pretty and girly I look. Why just last week at Walmart, I had so many folks taking second and third lookies at my stunning black latex catsuit with the red leather corset and the red thigh 6"high spiked heel boots... It was like a parade!

I was simply beside myself at how stunning I was, why I got so excited at the attention that I almost slipped my gaff! I mean how could you not be with so many people following me all over the store trying to catch a peek or three cause they were so impressed at my outfit and looks!

Even the cashier who rang me up was just plain flummoxed with envy! In fact she said to me that she wished she had the nerve to wear something like that in public!"

Sigh... So you see honey! Some folks like Mikki, well they just got it and some you... well you just ain't! Maybe in the next lifetime you'll be so lucky!

@Sibyl,

Actually I think Mikki played everyone so perfectly. I took exception because she failed to have the correct fingernail polish and her makeup was just not up to snuff.

I cannot imagine what those poor scrabble players must have thought with that sitting in front of them. The only thing I would add is Mikki needed the correct music and I would suggest one of my favorite Metal songs "You've Got Another Thing Coming" from Judas Priest. I am not sure Rob Halford meant it for such occasions but it would have been perfect.

I might suggest changing "You've Got Another Thing Coming" to "You've Got Another Think Coming" but then that is just my myopic opinion.

WHY GRRRLS. YOU ARE ALL JUST SOOOOO CATTTY!

Dru said...

Hi, Dru here. I talked with Mikki to clear up a few points arising from the inappropriate newspaper coverage of her competition win, and blogged about it. I followed a trackback on my blog and saw this article.
It's sad how quickly you can disrespect someone's identity because it doesn't conform to your own narrative. Your description of Mikki is remarkably similar to the way that I have heard some radfems describing transsexuals (and, from what I have read here, they would include you in that group).
Would anyone have thought it anything other than witty and mildly subversive if a cisgendered woman had played in a Scrabble competition sponsored by Mattel, dressed as their other famous product?
Be good, now!

Elizabeth said...

@Dru

Well that is just the point isn't it? Mikki was a caricature of a women that some fetishistic individuals believe defines womanhood. Mikki then gave an interview as a man with absolutely no indication she was in any way transsexual.

Are you Mikki's spokesman now?

I actually admire how well she played everyone in the tournament but Mikki can call herself Mikki the same as Alice Cooper can call himself Alice but a man is a man despite a girls name.

Sibyl said...

Catty? Moi? Why Anne, perish the thought!

As for you Dear Dru and your "gal-pal" Mikki, I'm gonna leave you with a pearl of pure wisdom

As the ever wise Aleshia Brevard said a long time ago "if you are gonna succeed at this, you're gonna need to develop a thick skin and a sense of humor...

Now I ask you how in the world could such a simple lesson become so lost upon all the poor down trodden and victimised Trans-(wo)men? Who it would seem, per all the scads of rhetoric this has generated expect to show up at an international competition looking like a badly accessorised escapee from an anthropomorphised Life Savers Multi Fruit roll, and be taken seriously!? Come on now! You gotta be kidding!

Yep, Liz was dead right on this one! Either "Mikki," having just won the International Scrabble Championship is the biggest dufus ever to come down the pike, which is highly unlikely given the afore mentioned championship! Or he, yes I said he, is in fact gaming everyone with his being "transsexual!"

Wake up and smell the coffee already! Ya been played girl! So what? Laugh at it and move on,

I did!

I would gladly be wrong about Mikki but maybe I am jaded by what I see occasionally over here on shows like Springer etc which I do try to avoid. I certainly do not wish Mikki anything but good wishes going forth and hope she wins her next scrabble tournament.

I also like your website for what that is worth.

Hello Elizabeth,

Your initial article on this is no better than the bigoted British Press.

Your condemnation of Mikki appears largely based on the coverage of the aforementioned press. To that you have also added a spurious video of an interview of her conducted at last year's Causeway Challenge in Malaysia. You have then implied the interview was conducted after the National Scrabble Championship in London.

You are as guilty as the transphobic press of accusing her of dressing to distract her opponent and therefore dismissing her ability as a scrabble player.
Her opponent was far more gracious and his comments in a post-match interview on BBC Radio centred on the fact that she had played the better game, despite the interviewer trying his best to use the angle you had in your argument. It was also known well in advance what Mikki's attire for the final was going to be, because Mattel had asked her to reconsider her choice of outfit. Given the free publicity Scrabble received by her victory, they should be thanking her for her boldness.

I am sure Mikki would love not to have dark facial hair, but the process of transitioning via the NHS in the United Kingdom is a minefield of inconsistencies and a maze of bureaucracy.

Ignorance of the facts behind this story did not stop it becoming newsworthy or the inaccuracies appearing in newsprint. Your latest comment does at least show you have an open mind. In dressing provocatively, Mikki challenged the British Press and showed it up for the conservative prejudgiced monster we all know.

We all deal with dysphoria in different ways and the path to our freedom must essentially follow an individual course.

Over the years I've seen an awfull lot of Mikkis. They come they go they have their five minuites and they vanish back to the Soho gay bars from whence they came. I'd say Liz has this pretty much on the button.

I can only judge what I see. I see someone in a pink wig with PVC dress and the obvious and deliberate facial hair and I see someone that is well NOT transsexual.

As for the video it was the only one I could find and it was posted after the championship but I have little use for self-proclaimed transsexuals that appear in fetish clothing that embarrasses themselves and any other person that is transsexual.

Mikki's hair was and is long enough not to need a wig so why a pink one? Why PVC for dress material? Why fish net stockings? I realize it is oh so politically correct to accept anyone who claims to be transsexual as transsexual but sorry because in this case at best Mikki is a very lousy fetishistic transvestite.

Based on the video Mikki's beard IS NOT that bad and her appearance was deliberate and hopefully a distraction. You have a right to your opinion and are welcome to post your opinion.
