Well the transgender activists are all up in a dither again. Seems Canada will no longer allow folks to travel without identification that matches their appearance. Well welcome to the real freaking world because if Canada has been allowing people to fly whose identification does not match their physical appearance then they have been putting every person on every plane flight AT RISK. I defy anyone to fly in the United States without matching identification. Now that is a little damning if you happen to be en femme and match your male identification but it is the simple truth.
Transgender people are not completely banned from boarding planes in Canada they are just required to have proper identification. The question I would want answered is simply, why is this bad? I wonder what fool would fly en femme when they only have male identification? Why not simply get a new drivers license or passport with yourself en femme? I realize that is an issue to some but I went through that for nearly 11 years of my life from 14 until I had just turned 25. I was questioned all the time because the M on my passport and license did not match the face but in this case it did match me. I had no choice when it came to flying between Boston and college so I endured it.
Are these activists claiming it is an outrage or inappropriate requiring "trans" people from following the same guidelines as everyone else? Are only trans people to be allowed to fly not matching their paperwork? Is it okay for the agent to ask the "trans" person a simple question, why are you traveling dressed as a woman when your paperwork says male? Are they banned from doing a "pat down" if they are flying en femme?
This entire discussion then devolves into an argument that "trans" people should be able to get proper identification which I actually agree with but in my world "trans" means transsexual and not transvestite. This is really another situation where certain activists are trying to create a shit storm about a perfectly reasonable rule which is meant to protect those that are flying from those that wish to harm others. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the "trans" people of Canada but is simply an attempt to protect those that fly.
The entire scenario devolves into a "transgender crisis" artificially created by those that want to change the laws for identification in Canada and throughout the rest of the civilized world. I really cannot understand why a transvestite would need to travel en femme unless it is the ultimate "thrill". I guess "trans" people need special dispensation because they are a special issue. I do understand why a transsexual might need to travel when in Real Life Experience mode and I do believe the Canadian government allows a special passport to be issued for a short period. In the US it was for two years.
What this is really about is certain Provinces in Canada are more stringent in allowing identification to be changed unless one has SRS. It always boils down to the transgender activists wanting male/female to be a choice made by the person regardless of SRS. They want to redefine what female is to allow little Johnny to be Joan when he wants. It always comes down to the "trans" activists wanting more "special" privileges for themselves and their friends. If they decide to keep their penis the they are woman if they say they are.
I have always wondered why being considered female and accepted as female was not enough but then I was thinking about those born transsexual. I find this entire scenario and all the surrounding hoopla to be disingenuous. After I had SRS in January of 1971 I took my SRS letter, my legal name change, and went to the US Passport Office and got a new passport without issue. I had my social security changed without issue. I got a new Driver License in Massachusetts without issue. That was over 40 years ago and I did this without issue but then all we transsexuals wanted back then was to fit in. Nowadays a lot seem to want to stand out. It makes it easier to get through life as a woman because they have a built in excuse. They are transgendered and they need special rules and laws to protect them so they can invade women's spaces like bathrooms and gyms while still packing a penis. This is another example of this.
One has to really wonder sometimes how badly they really want to be girls. It always seemed to me the need to be as normal a girl as possible was the optimum desire of most transsexuals. Now back in the "old days" we did have our professional transsexuals but even they were different because they were actually really born transsexual. The real truth is playing girl is more fun to them than actually trying to really be a girl. They "choose" to be transsexual. They "choose" to keep their penis for maintenance reasons. They choose to stay men for their families until 55.
Anyone truly born transsexual will tell you there is NO choice involved. Here we have another choice they are demanding. They want to be able to fly en femme disguised as women with mismatching identification because they are "trans". I wonder how much pentaerythritol trinitrate (PETN) one could hide in a bra. About 100 grams or 3.5 ounces can blow a car to nothing and the gas chromography explosive detection systems in the US and Canada would never pick it up. That is a comforting thought isn't it??
Gee, I wonder why the TSA or Canadian authorities are a little worried about this?

This is hilarious. I can see an Al Qaeda terrorist wanting to board a plane en femme and demanding their right not to be searched, while he packs his hijacking weapons, “la la la la la la la!”
BlackSwan
well someone might actually understand the hilarity of the entire farce.
How are you? Have not seen you around much lately.
This is just silly when I saw this the other day all I could do was shake my head.

This is really quite simple. A person's "gender presentation" is recorded in the photograph on their ID. That's what's being checked. If a person's regular daily appearance no longer matches the photo on their ID, for ANY reason, that person can submit, or have taken, a new photograph that does match their current appearance. There is no gatekeeping, no special forms or authorizations are required, and the fees are minimal, about the same as replacing a lost ID.
So, if anyone wants to fly "en femme," there's the path forward. After the flight, they can then show that same "en femme" photo ID to their HR department at work, and to the bank teller who cashes their paychecks, and to the officer who pulls them over for speeding on the way home, and so on. If they actually live that way 24/7/365, this will not be an issue, and likely will make things easier for them.
If not, they'll whine and scream "transphobia" about having to break "stealth" in their regular, male-privileged lives if they want to bring Sex Fantasy Fair onto the airplane with the rest of us. Add me to the list of people who doesn't want to be stuck in a narrow seat crammed up against THAT for hours on end.
Well-played, Canadian government.

All this security sturm und drang is mostly crap, intended to slowly boil the frog of liberty. Looks as though liberty's goose is well cooked.
Just sayin'.

Not sure I disagree but there are security issues. A US company has the best explosive detection equipment in world that is darn close to infallible and passed the US Army live testing in Idaho but US government under both Bush and particularly Obama chose a GE system that is so bad they are lucky it runs and cannot find a thing. Canada uses these systems from GE and another company that are crap.
The TSA in the US should not be allowed to protect an abandoned outhouse in West Texas. The NSA has facial recognition software that is amazing only "they" are allowed to run it. It should be run automatically at every airport entry point but it is not.
Air safety is important and having proper identification is important. It is simple to get corrected id with your new picture on it. It was originally one of the issues faced by all transitioning transsexuals in the past. Those who went to Casablanca for surgery had to travel under a male passport quite often. You did what you had to do. In many ways it was part of the challenge of being born transsexual and it can hurt.
The problem is these fools make it sound like some deliberate attempt to harm "trans" people. It is absolutely NOT that in any way shape or form. I think these transgender activists would have been up in arms if anyone had been stopped and quite honestly if they were then too bad. Hell I went to the Texas Motor Vehicles in Houston and got my boy drivers license in 1966. Not a lot of fun but I did it.
People seem to want special privileges because they are transgender. Outside of protection from harm just what special privileges do they deserve? A lot it seems.
I do not believe in the Patriot Act or torture as a solution to a problem except in extremely rare cases (I have not seen that case), nor do I believe anyone born transsexual or considering themselves transgendered deserves and "special rights" that infringe on the rights of others.
One of our rights hopefully is safe air travel and that means proper identification or it should.
I couldn't agree more Aunty.
I have actually had the misfortune to be involved with certain projects involved in airline safety and I can assure you from personal experience the management within the TSA are idiots while they do have some really good tech people who are never listened to.
I stand by my statement the TSA should not be allowed to guard an abandoned outhouse in West Texas.
Am I missing something here? If so, I wouldn't be surprised. However, being that I know many within the TG community, one of the most heart-stopping issues they will admit to is "being outed" when in public. But, I have to ask, why then wouldn't you take the steps necessary to change your identification in order to prevent such "outings", if you're so concerned about it. I mean, really! If your a TG and you want to fly somewhere, I really couldn't think of a more extreme potential of being outed than transporting yourself by commercial air travel. Fix your damn ID!
I care more about the safety of the traveling public as a whole and the innumerable potential stationary targets such vehicles can destroy, in this circumstance, than I do about your (TG) fear that you're going to be placed in some form of "danger" by being outed. Either buck-up and accept your deviance of normalcy in the eyes of the masses, or stay home, in your closet, safe and sound.
And, yes. This issue is more about political force of will for TG's than it is any form of concern to a - for lack of a better term - greater good, brought to attention by the TG movement.

Their wives won't let them, that is the problem.

All I know is, when women are concerned about the possibility of predatory men posing as "Trans" in order to commit sexual assaults under cover of overly-broad public accommodations statutes, the Transvestite Lobby's position is stand-offish, and even challenging: Essentially, "Nuh-uh, prove it." Of course, a woman has to be sexually assaulted in order to provide that proof. No big deal, no need to take precautions against this, says the Transvestite Lobby.
But heaven forbid if there's the outside, hypothetical possibility that Todd from the Mechanic's Pool could be told "No" when he wants to fly to Southern Comfort as "Tamara" to celebrate his 30-year military retirement. No time to wait for the "proof" in that case, I mean, having to put on trousers for a few hours, now that could scar him for life! Can't even risk the possibility of such a horror, it's too damaging! We need to completely restructure travel security protocols to take precautions against this, says the Transvestite Lobby.
That's all I need to know about the Transvestite Lobby.

I think AR has a point here. If the individual in question actually DOES IN FACT, live "en femme" FULL TIME 24/7/365, then a simple change of ID should do the trick.
If however, this individual "presents en femme" AT WILL, then perhaps a simple 'adjustment' to their "prsentation" might avoid all this "trauma". As was pointed out in the commentary on Mercedes' Blog. There have been no reports of any inconvenience to the trans community as a result of this law which has actually been in use since 2007.
SB
And right on cue, I note the recent HuffPo article on behalf of the Transvestite Lobby, this time trying to hide behind FTMs. A real FTM would have matching documentation, or at least a medical letter explaining the situation. So again, they're feeding in a "ringer." But to reverse SB's statement, if this individual "presents en masc" AT WILL, then perhaps a simple 'adjustment' to their "presentation" might avoid all this "trauma."
But even that isn't necessary.
Suppose a butch woman has this happen - superficial glance says "man," so a male officer comes over. Upon checking the passport, he notices a female name, then confirms this with the "sex" marker, per the policy. He offers to get a female agent, just like he's supposed to. The system worked.
What if it's an MTF, maybe not gifted in the looks department, no FFS yet, dressed down to avoid standing out in the crowd any more than is already inevitable, trying not to be the living embodiment of that stupid over-done stereotype? And oops, they thought she was a man at first, same thing that happened to the "butch" woman. And the same result occurs, security guy sees the name and sex on the passport, and goes and gets a female agent. Again, the system works.
And the Transvestite Lobby complains about this.
And now just to put the cherry on top, Mercedes is over at the Montreal Gazette pushing the "Sex Unspecified" option - which guarantees that the bearer will have to be pulled aside and given extra scrutiny, to make sure that every bulge in every pair of trousers and every bump in every sweater really is what it appears to be. That's the proposed "solution?" What was the stated problem again? I've lost track.

A sure way to make sure airport security and everyone else for that matter refers to those with such ID as ether "IT" or "He-She".
See how those people think, they can't stop self-marginalizing. They cannot live a normal life, they must always be the victim.

I dunno NYF, most of them seem to be able to stop self-marginalizing just fine come 9:00 Monday morning.
